EMuck Privacy Policy

What is EMuck?

EMuck is short for "EntertainMUCK," which is a socially oriented, multi-user environment run by AmberThree Productions. EMuck opened its doors to the public in April, 1996 and currently has a roster of hundreds of players from around the world.

EMuck is run as a non-for-profit venture by AmberThree Productions. In the following, please note that references to EMuck also apply to AmberThree Productions.

What information is collected by EMuck?

Some personal information is gathered when you register. During registration, EMuck asks for the following personal information:

People that want to become members of EMuck are asked to volunteer this registration information, and we require this information to be accurate for a person to gain membership to EMuck.

This membership information normally only used for player registration, and is only accessible to EMuck (and its administration staff).

In addition to registration, we may occasionally ask for personal information at other times, including (but not limited to) when players enter contests or other promotions sponsored by EMuck.

EMuck may also occasionally ask users to voluntarily complete surveys that we use for research purposes.

If you contact EMuck we may keep a record of that correspondence.

EMuck also keeps records of who connects to EMuck and its web server and when (web and status logs), and commands typed on EMuck's game server (command log). These logs are only used for diagnosing technical problems when they occur, or for identifying actions that may cause injury or interference with EMuck's rights or property, other EMuck users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such actions (see below).

In normal day to day operations, EMuck does not reveal any of the information listed above to anybody that is not an administrator on EMuck. We do not offer this information for sale to anybody for any purpose whatsoever.

EMuck may disclose account information in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be violating EMuck's Terms of Service or may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) EMuck's rights or property, other EMuck users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities.

EMuck may disclose or access account information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it and for administrative and other purposes that we deem necessary to maintain, service, and improve our products and services.

In addition to the above, there are facilities within EMuck's game server for members to volunteer personal information (such as "player information" or PINFO) about themselves. Unlike the registration information, which we require to be accurate, members may specify any or none of this information, and may even put false information in there without any repercussions.

What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of my information?

Your EMuck registration information is protected so that only EMuck administrators have access to this personal information.

We recommend that you do not divulge your EMuck password to anyone. The administrators on EMuck will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email, as we have no personal need for it.

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. For example, communication to the EMuck game server or web server is not encrypted. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, EMuck cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

What about children's privacy?

Naturally, the safety of children is very important to us. EMuck recommends that members who are minors in their local jurisdictions get a parent or guardian's permission before joining EMuck.

EMuck is a general audience web site and a lot of the material presented on its game server is created by members of EMuck. EMuck cannot warrant that objectionable material cannot possibly be viewed by children, although we actively discourage such material being posted by our members in scenarios where minors may be witness to such material.

Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, no web site operator is permitted to require a child under the age of 13 to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in an activity as a condition of participation. EMuck abides by this requirement.

EMuck and AmberThree Productions do not share personally identifying information about any of our users with business partners or other third parties. Although we occasionally send notices regarding information regarding EMuck itself (notices of change of address, etc.) to our members via email, this happens very infrequently. We do not contact users with special offers or for marketing purposes, nor do we share any of our registration information with third parties, including advertisers. All EMuck members, including minors, are subject to this policy.
